Maya Roman

Media Strategist

Maya Roman a social activist, media strategist, and academic with a focus on human rights and feminist advocacy. Since the kidnapping of her cousin, Yarden Roman and her cousin’s sister-in-law, Carmel Gat, Maya has been at the forefront of efforts to secure the release of Israeli hostages. She specializes in media and international advocacy, working closely with U.S. and German lawmakers and officials. Maya has addressed 100 members of the U.S. Senate and Congress in a special meeting on the hill, and her media appearances include interviews on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and notable podcasts such as Pod Save the World and Call Me Back. She has also coached numerous hostage families for interviews and helped produce an Emmy-winning interview for 60 Minutes featuring her cousin Yarden.

Alongside her advocacy work, Maya teaches advanced seminars at Tel Aviv University and the Open University of Israel, with a focus on feminist philosophy of science, 20th century analytic philosophy, and the history of women in science.


Before October 7th, Maya founded and led Politically Corret, Israel’s leading feminist news platform. Under her leadership, the organization became one of the biggest independent news organizations in Israel, published groundbreaking investigative reports focused on violence against women that influenced Israeli law and helped push forward public discourse on gender issues. She also spearheaded collaborations with I’lam, training Israeli and Palestinian feminist journalists to cover the conflict through a unique lens. She currently serves on the board of the organization.


Maya is the former Editor-in-Chief of METROPOLIS Magazine, where she developed city guides and created partnerships with tourism bureaus worldwide. She has written about over a dozen cities, ranging from Tokyo to New Orleans. 

She holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Classical Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an M.A. in Philosophy of Science from Tel Aviv University, where she is completing her Ph.D in Philosophy of Science.
